Chorus' 2 concerts honor AZ centennial
The Catalinas Community Chorus will pay homage to Arizona's centennial with two performances, one on Sunday and another on April 29.
The chorus has a selection of Copper State songs in store, including "I Love You, Arizona" by Rex Allen Jr., "Pretty Little Angel Eyes," by Yuma-born singer Curtis Lee and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," made famous by longtime Arizona resident Glen Campbell.
Performances will feature rope twirlers, mariachis and narration by KGUN 9 anchor Guy Atchley.
Sunday's show will take place at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Southwest Sanctuary, 7575 N. Paseo del Norte.
The April 29 show starts at 3 p.m. at the Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church, 3001 E. Miravista Lane.

Festivities benefit Special Olympics
A fundraiser for Special Olympics will take place Saturday in the parking lot of Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815.
The all-day festivities will include a silent auction, raffles, food and performances from the Coyote Country Cloggers and musician Justin Curtis.
The free event, which runs from noon to 8 p.m., is a true group effort.
Sponsors include Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815, Catalina-Oro Valley Lions Club, the Best Western Catalina Inn, Players Pub and Catalina State Farm agent Jay Salazar.

Camping Under Stars is this weekend
Marana residents still have time to sign up for Marana Parks and Recreation's Camping Under the Stars event.
The overnight gathering runs Saturday to Sunday at Ora Mae Harn Park, 13250 N. Lon Adams Road, and includes designated tent areas, games, crafts and an outdoor movie.
Admission is $5-$15 depending on the number of campers per party.
The registration deadline is Friday at marana.com online.
OV offers inspection of pool barriers
The town of Oro Valley will offer free safety inspections of pool and spa barriers and enclosures within town limits starting May 1.
Interested residents will receive a visit from the Inspection & Compliance Division to see if their swimming units are in accordance with the town's current pool and spa code.
Suggestions will be made if any problems are found, but owners will not be obligated to correct the problem.

La Cañada/Magee meeting is April 26
The La Cañada/Magee Neighborhood Association will hold its spring general meeting April 26 in the chapel at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 7650 N. Paseo del Norte.
Pothole improvements, county ordinance revisions, traffic cameras and the Carmack Wash reconfiguration will all be discussed.
Lt. Scott Martin and Sgt. Bill Murphy from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Priscilla Cornelio, the director of the Pima County Department of Transportation, and Chief Ed Wilkerson of the Mountain Vista Fire District are slated to speak.

Knights of Columbus to host golf benefit
The Knights of Columbus will hold its 10th annual charity golf tournament Saturday at SaddleBrooke Ranch, at milepost 93 on Highway 77.
The tournament includes a $10,000 hole-in-one contest, as well as prizes for the longest drive, longest putt, most accurate drive and shot closest to the pin.
The golf game will be in a four-person scramble format.
Admission to play is $70. Proceeds go toward college scholarships and financial assistance for high school seniors.

Baskets to be shown at free show Sunday
Baskets from some of the best and brightest weavers from Casas Adobes Congregational Church, UCC, will be on display Sunday.
The exhibit will be held in McNear Hall on the church campus, 6801 N. Oracle Road.
The show, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is part of the church's Adventures in Art series. Admission is free.

Zumbathon to help Parkinson's research
A Zumbathon to raise money for Parkinson's disease research will be held Saturday at Mountain View High School.
Proceeds from the event, dubbed the Team Fox Zumbathon, will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, an organization started by the actor in 2000 that has already given an estimated $285 million toward developing a cure for Parkinson's.
Fox was diagnosed with the disease in 1991.
Team Fox is the grass-roots fundraising division of the foundation.
The Zumbathon will be led by instructors Lupita Gonzalez and Cynthia Bustamante, as well as local Team Fox member Kistie Sharp.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with Zumba starting at 10 at the school, 3901 W. Linda Vista Blvd.
The $15 cash-only participation fee includes a shirt and a water bottle.

Town offers residents chance to visit Cuba
Marana residents are being offered the rare opportunity to travel to Cuba through the Marana Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is working with the travel company Chamber Explorations to arrange a nine-day cultural excursion to the Island country in October.
The tour will include visits to Old Havana, the Church of Trinidad, the Partagás Cigar Factory, Hemingway's farm and the Bay of Pigs Museum.
The trip is made possible through specific licenses offered by the Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Tickets are $4,399 per person or $3,799 per person for parties of two.
