Members of American Legion Auxiliary Oro Valley Unit 132 will distribute red “remembrance” poppies on May 23, 24 and 25 at the Walmart at Oro Valley Marketplace, 2150 E. Tangerine Road, and Fry’s Food Store, 10661 N. Oracle Road.

Poppies are to be worn on Memorial Day weekend as a sign of appreciation for members of the armed forces. Memorial Day is May 26.

“Wear it in honor of those Americans who willingly served our nation in times of war and conflict and made the ultimate sacrifice,” Onita Davis, president of Oro Valley Unit 132, said in a press release.

“In addition to honoring our fallen heroes, members of the American Legion Auxiliary will be paying special tribute to those currently serving in or recently returned from the Middle East.”

The auxiliary will accept donations for the poppies, which help support the hospitalized and disabled veterans who make the handcrafted flowers.
