CDO Academic Decathlon team places second in state

The Academic Decathlon team from Canyon del Oro High School placed second in the state at the competition finals.

The competition was March 9 and 10 at Arizona State University West and included 40 schools. Mesa Red Mountain took the state title. CDO students won 25 medals at the competition.

The team will compete at the national finals in Minneapolis April 23-27.

Team members include Jake Rockland, Annaliese Grant, Rebecca Gosla, Jakub Safar, Alexander Molina, Maria Elena Pakulis, Rose Booth, Powell Brumm and Jason Trainor.

Tortolita Middle School to celebrate its 30th

Marana Unified School District's Tortolita Middle School is throwing a party to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The free event will be at the school, 4101 W. Hardy Road, at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Green Fields planning casino-themed fundraiser

Green Fields Country Day School is asking benefactors to roll the dice in support of the private school's scholarship program.

Saturday's Griffin Gamble will raise money for the Green Fields Annual Fund, which provides scholarships for students. The event will include appetizers and a cash bar, as well as table games such as roulette, blackjack, craps and poker. Slot machines will also be available.

Admission is $50, with two tickets available for $90. The price includes a raffle ticket and play money to gamble with.

The event is only for adults and is from 5 to 9 p.m. at White Stallion Ranch, 9251 W. Twin Peaks Road. Child care will be available at the event.
