The Pima Animal Care Center is dropping its adoption fees to $13 this month for many pets waiting for new homes.

The special rate will apply to adult cats and to all dogs at the center that are 40 pounds or more.

All other pets will be $50. All adopted animals leave with vaccinations, microchips and spay/neuter surgery.

OPEN 11 A.M.-1 P.M. today

Pima Animal Care will be open from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today. The adoption fee for every animal, no matter size or age, will be $13.

Keep in mind that the Fourth of July, with all of its whines and booms and hisses, can be a stressful time for animals.

Be sure to secure your pet in his or her familiar surroundings. But if your pet happens to get lost, be sure to check with Pima Animal Care Center, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd.

Also check online at and, which are clearinghouses for found pets throughout Pima County, compiling lists from the shelter and the community.

You can also visit the Lost and Found Pets of Pima County and Lost Dogs Arizona Facebook pages, and check Craigslist.

Other than holidays, the county-run shelter is open seven days a week - noon-7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
