Open enrollment in Arizona's new health insurance marketplace hasn't begun yet, but individuals are invited to create an online marketplace account right now.

Arizonans may sign up at, which is a federal website. Arizona selected to have the federal government operate its health insurance marketplace, which is a place where individuals, families and businesses can purchase health insurance following provisions of the Affordable Care Act.

The marketplace will be open for purchasing insurance Oct. 1. Users will fill out an application and be able to see all the local health plans that are available. Depending on income, Arizonans may be eligible for federal subsidies to help pay for their health insurance.

Coverage begins on Jan. 1, 2014. Questions may be directed to a toll-free hotline at 1-800-318-2596 24 hours per day, seven days per week. TTY users should call 1-855-889-4325.
