Medical helicopter crashes in Arizona

June 29, 2008: Two medical helicopters, including one from Air Methods Corp., collide in midair less than a mile from Flagstaff Medical Center. Six people aboard the copters die; another dies several days later.

March 4, 1992 - Pilot Dale Matthews, 32, and Tucson flight nurse Susan Ben-Asher Newton, 26, are killed during an evening flight from Tucson to pick up a patient at a Safford hospital when the medevac helicopter they are in crashes at about 8,200 feet in the Pinaleno Mountains southwest of Safford. Glenn Velardi, a 34-year-old paramedic, survives.

Other aircraft crashes in Tucson

Dec. 18, 1967 - Four people are killed when an F-4D Phantom fighter-bomber jet crashes into the Food Giant Market at South Alvernon Way and East 29th Street shortly after takeoff.

Oct. 26, 1978 - Two sisters are killed when an A-7D Corsair II crashes into their car on North Highland Avenue near East Sixth Street.

Marana MV-22 crash

April 8, 2000 - Nineteen Marines are killed when their MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft crashes during a routine landing in Marana.
