The championship matchup is set.
Either Grandma Tony’s Pizza & Wings or Frog & Firkin will cut down the nets and bask in the glory of the Pizza Madness crown.
Grandma Tony’s, the 30-year-old pizzeria and official pizza of the Gaslight Theatre, beat a host of pizzas to advance to the championship — Tino’s Pizza in the first round, Dry River Co. in the Savory 16, Argenziano’s in the El-Eat Eight and finally Rocco’s Little Chicago Pizzeria in the Final Formaggio.
In the four days of voting, the lead shifted many times before Grandma Tony’s won by 11 votes, 869-858.
“It was out of control! It was just back and forth and back and forth. More fun than I’ve had in a long time,” said Grandma Tony’s owner, Tony Terry.
“Rocco is just a great guy and runs a great business. My heart goes out to all of us that are running these independent businesses. It’s so hard and you work a million hours.”
Vote for either Frog & Firkin or Grandma Tony's on the Arizona Daily Star Facebook page starting this morning. One pizza will be crowned the winner of Pizza Madness. We've been asking, "Who has the best pizza" but your comments make it clear that the bracket is about more than that. People love these restaurants because of the service, the Tucson connections, the history, the crowd and the atmosphere. Which place do you love the most? Vote until Sunday at 10 p.m.
