A 19-year-old pregnant woman was killed early Saturday when gunshots were fired into a house on Tucson’s west side, police say.

The shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. when police say the woman’s screams woke several people asleep in the house.

Jasmine Vega was unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds when officers and a Tucson Fire crew arrived at the house in the 1500 block of West Calle Guadalajara, near West Ajo Way and South Mission Road, a Tucson police news release says.

Vega, who was about six months pregnant, died a short time later at a hospital.

Her baby was delivered and was being treated at the hospital, the news release said.

Gang unit detectives are investigating.

Police say several bullet holes were found in the walls of the house and investigators are working to determine if anyone in the home was specifically targeted.

No one else in the house was wounded.
