The bases are jammed, but so are you - in traffic. You're still driving when when your favorite player hits a line drive.

And you're barely sliding into a parking space when he slides home.

What a nightmare!

Here's how to avoid the spring training traffic mess for the Arizona Diamondbacks-San Diego Padres game on Sunday and the Chicago Cubs-Los Angeles Dodgers game on Thursday, March 21, at the Kino Sports Complex, 2500 E. Ajo Way.

Your best bet is to get there early. The will-call ticket window opens at 10 a.m. Gates open at 11 a.m., and games start at 1:05 p.m.

Alternate routes to avoid traffic backup on Kino Parkway:

Use Park Avenue, Country Club Road or Alvernon Way/Palo Verde Road to get to Ajo.

There's also a back way to the stadium parking lot from Country Club Road using Milber Street.

From Interstate 10, you could exit on Benson Highway and turn left onto Ajo Way or exit on Palo Verde, turn left on Irvington Road and turn right on Country Club.

Or you could plan ahead to park away from the stadium and take the bus to the game. Park at the Laos Transit Center Park & Ride, 205 W. Irvington Road, and take a 10-minute bus ride on a Route 11 bus. Get bus schedules at or 792-9222.

There are several changes to I-10 frontage road access this week.

• The right lane of the eastbound frontage road will be closed between Ruthrauff Road and Commerce Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. today through Wednesday.

• The westbound frontage road will be closed between 22nd and Congress streets today for several weeks. Drivers will be detoured onto I-10 at 22nd Street.

• The eastbound frontage road will be down to one lane between Congress and Cushing streets today for several weeks.

Expect extensive bicycle traffic in the Tucson Mountains area and in Sahuarita this weekend for the Tucson Bicycle Classic, said founder-promoter Steve Bohn.

On Friday, McCain Loop Road will be closed from noon to 6 p.m.

The Sahuarita Road Race is Saturday. Watch for cyclists on Duval Mine Road, Mission Road, Helmet Peak Road and La Cañada Drive between 6:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Sunday, Greasewood Road will be closed between Anklam Road and Speedway.

"Why isn't the light that allows for exiting onto Anklam from Pima Community College West an on-demand light, instead of one that stops traffic on Anklam when no one is attempting to exit from the college?" Pat and Kathy Dubbs wrote.

A: Tucson transportation staff checked it out and found a problem with the communication between the roadway vehicle-detection device and the traffic controller - and they promptly repaired it, said TDOT manager Michael Hicks.

We hope that makes one less stop on your commute.
