Numerous called were made to 911 Thursday morning reporting a man in a GMC SUV driving erratically on South Palo Verde Road. Just before 10 a.m., the vehicle drove over the side of a bridge at South Julian Drive and crashed into a drainage ditch, Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said.

Rural/Metro Fire Department personnel had to extraciate the man who was trapped in the SUV before he could be transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
