The DPS and other agencies are on the scene tonight of a serious traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 19 just south of West Valencia Road.

Initial reports indicate a male was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes. The man is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened just after 7 p.m. Authorities were closing the southbound lanes of I-19 to investigate the accident.

ADOT said the closure could last several hours.

ADOT said once exiting I-19 at Valencia, drivers can head east on Valencia to South Sixth Avenue, turn south and go past the Los Reales Road intersection and then head southwest on San Xavier Road, which will take drivers back to I-19.

Northbound lanes remain open.
