A teen was killed Saturday night in a rollover wreck on Interstate 19 south of Tucson, officials said.

Mariano Jose Leon, 17, was driving south on the freeway shortly before 11 p.m. when he lost control of his sedan, a state Department of Public Safety official confirmed Sunday.

The car rolled several times before landing upright in the shoulder of the northbound lane, Green Valley Fire Battalion Chief William Rowe said in a news release.

The driver, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A separate rear-end crash occurred at the same location shortly after emergency officials re-opened a lane to traffic, Rowe said.

One person in the second crash was taken to a hospital. Both crashes are being investigated by DPS.
