Everybody pitches-in to raise the tent for the Zoppe Family Circus next to the Mercado San Agustin on Congress Street, west of I-10 on Jan. 11 for 10-days of performances beginning Jan. 12. It takes about three long days to erect the tent, bleachers and all the wires and equipment in the tent's interior. Ringmaster Giovanni Zoppe said he and his father designed the tent, which was engineered in Italy and sewn in Mexico.

The small, people-focused circus with origins in Italy just completed its 175th year. The circus employs 45 performers and crew, who live on site during performances. They will travel for 22 weeks this season.
