Severe thunderstorms have left at least 5,000 customers without power this evening and Oracle Road is closed from Limberlost to River Road until at least  11 p.m.

River Road, between Campbell and First Avenues is also closed due to flooding until at least 9 p.m. and Roger Road is closed for the rest of the night from First Avenue to Oracle Road because of downed power lines.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the storms, which produced quarter-size hail and damaging winds of up to 60 miles per hour rolled through the city at 15 to 20 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said.

A warning issued by the weather service expired after the storm diminished in strength around 6 p.m.

Power outages have been reported at and around the Tucson Mall, prompting the closure of Oracle Road.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution and avoid flooded areas and washes.
