A 58-year-old woman was struck by a SunTran bus this afternoon and was briefly trapped under the rear wheels, officials say.

The woman was walking in a crosswalk in the 100 block of East Alameda Street, near North Sixth Avenue, at about 12:30 p.m. when she was struck by the bus, said Sgt. Diana Lopez, a Tucson police spokeswoman.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries, Lopez said.

No other information was immediately available.
