A 33-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with starting a hauling trailer on fire in the back yard of her northside Tucson home, authorities said.
Dorothy Newsome faces one count of arson of a structure and one count of felony criminal damage, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Newsome was booked into the Pima County jail.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday, Tucson Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to a report of a trailer fire at a house in the 800 block of West Kelso Street.
Firefighers found a double-axle hauling trailer on fire, and extinguished the blaze. No one was at the house at the time of the fire, Widmer said.
Tucson Fire investigators determined the incident was arson. TPD’s organized crime/arson unit detectives continued the investigation, Widmer said.
Detectives found out that Newsome, her three children and Newsome’s boyfriend lived at the house. They also found out that the hauling trailer belonged to a relative of Newsome’s boyfriend, and that Newsome started the fire, Widmer said.
The motive for the arson is not yet known, and damage to the trailer and its contents was estimated at $17,000, said Widmer.
