Two men were killed in an early morning crash Sunday on Tucson’s northside.
Gabriel Gallegos, 18, was driving a Chevy Corvette westbound around 2:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of East River Road, near North Crayroft Road, when he lost control of the car, crossed the center line and hit a Honda Civic traveling eastbound head on, Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said in a news release.
The cars spun off the road and Gallegos was thrown from the vehicle. The passenger in the Corvette, 20-year-old Olajuwon Gilliam, was trapped in the car, the release said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence indicates Gallegos was driving at a high rate of speed, the release said.
A man and woman in the Civic were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the release said.
