KGUN Channel 9 anchor Jennifer Waddell signed off Friday, leaving for a morning anchor position in Nashville, Tenn. She had been with the station since 2005.

Waddell, who anchored the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts at KGUN, will start at Nashville’s WZTV Fox 17 on Sept. 23. She is married with two children.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, where she studied broadcast communications and political science, Waddell worked in Roanoke, Va., for seven years before taking the job at KGUN.

“Tucson has been great to us,” Waddell said. “We’ve had our children here and come to really care a whole lot about this community and felt really connected. Leaving is bittersweet, having to say goodbye to a lot of our very dear friends, but we’re excited for the new chapter.

Waddell was active in the nonprofit community, working with organizations including Casa de los Niños and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson.

She said she’ll miss Sonoran dogs and Tucson sunsets, but it’s the people she will miss most of all.

“For me, the biggest part of this job is being part of the community and really serving the community,” she said. “I just really wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped us to be part of this community. I feel we’ve done a lot of good things here.”
