A fire about two miles north of Benson that was edging toward I-10 closed the interstate temporarily early Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out about noon in Pomerene — an unincorporated community in Cochise County, authorities said.

As it crept toward I-10, state land authorities closed the interstate for safety purposes, said Carrie Dennett, an Arizona State Forestry Division spokeswoman.

There interstate was closed for about two hours, said Dennett.

The 15-acre fire did not jump the interstate, and structures are no longer threatened, Dennett said.

There is no estimate of when fire crews will contain the fire, said Dennett.
