A new human-caused fire is burning an estimated 35 to 40 acres on Coronado National Forest land 7 to 10 miles east of Arivaca.

No structures are threatened, but the Jalisco Fire, reported at 4:48 p.m. Thursday, is burning through dry grassland and brush and wind is a factor, said Forest Service spokeswoman Heidi Schewel.

About 20 firefighters from the Forest Service and from Arivaca Fire are fighting the fire, with additional help called in for Friday, she said.

There are no structures in that area, she said. Arivaca is northwest of Nogales.

Coronado National Forest is under strict fire restrictions, with no fires permitted anywhere, she noted.
