Fires burning in our area:
• The Thomas Fire began in the Baboquivari Mountains on Tuesday about 27 miles southeast of Sells and has burned about 107 acres. It is about 50 percent contained.
The human-caused fire is burning in grass and brush in steep terrain, south of Baboquivari Peak on the ridge above Thomas Canyon.
Ground crews, engines and some aircraft are assigned to the blaze. One structure is in the area of the fire.
• A wildfire near Agua Prieta, Sonora, was among five wildfires that crews were battling in the Mexican state.
The Agua Prieta fire is burning at Rancho Ucaral, and is visible in Douglas and Bisbee.
More than 70 firefighters were battling the wildfires in Ajos Bavispe Reserve in northern Sonora, according to Sonora's El Imparcial newspaper.
Some of the fires are burning in rugged pine forest, which is difficult to reach, El Imparcial said.
