The highway leading up to Mount Graham near Safford has been closed because of wildfire danger, according to a news release from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The U.S. Forest Service determined the risk of wildfire is too extreme to allow access to the public, the release said.

State Route 366, known locally as Swift Trail, has been closed at the lowest gate on milepost 316.

The Wallow Fire in Greenlee County has burned about 100,000 acres in the White Mountains and led to the evacuation of Hannigan Meadow, Sprucedale, Josh Ranch, Big Lake, Alpine and Nutrioso, the release said.

The Horseshoe 2 Fire in Cochise County has grown to 80,000 acres.
