The wildfire burning in the Rincon Mountains east of Tucson has grown to 550 acres.

The Deer Head Fire is being managed by Saguaro National Park officials to benefit the environment and to burn off fuels on the ground. The fire began Thursday in a rugged section of the park. Most trees in the burn zone are expected to survive the fire, park officials said Tuesday.

Firefighters assigned to the fire are building fire breaks and conducting burnout operations today to help manage the fire. They are also taking steps to protect the Manning Camp cabin in case the fire moves in that direction. More smoke may be visible because of the burnout operations.
