One man is dead and another man was seriously injured after a shooting on Tucson’s southwest side Sunday night.

Police responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. to a report of shots heard in the 1800 block of South San Jose Drive, near South Mission Road, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Officers found one man dead inside a vehicle, and a second man wounded in the desert west of the area, Widmer said.

The 26-year-old man was treated by Tucson Fire Department paramedics and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

Officers were working last night to make contact with people in two houses near where the shooting occurred, Widmer said.

The Special Weapons and Tactics team were on the scene. When officers entered the houses, they found no one in the houses, Widmer said.

Homicide detectives were continuing the investigation.

No further information was immediately available.
