As a woman who served in the U.S. Air Force, I was appalled when I read the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) were singled out to be denied burial in Arlington National Cemetery. These trailblazing women received full veteran status in 1977 and should have the same treatment as the men they served beside. Denying them because of gender dishonored their service when we should be thanking them.

I was glad when Rep. Martha McSally took up this issue and fought to pass a law allowing the WASPs back into Arlington. This isn’t just about one small group; this is about equal treatment under the law for all. Rep. McSally has shown what it takes to get results in Congress, even as gridlocked as it is. Doing things like helping the WASPs is what we sent her to Congress to do, and she’s more than living up to that promise.
