What do we do with a President who lies?

As a Muslim-American, I am faced with a hard fact: The Qur'an (4:60) tells us to "obey those in authority among you." Muslims believe that obedience to the authority properly constituted by law is in reality obedience to God. The practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), as well as his sayings, make it clear that in secular matters Muslims should obey their rulers. But what if that ruler is a liar?

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) abhorred lying. He felt that telling the truth--even if it hurts you--is always the best policy.

Christians and Jews also hate lying. In the Ten Commandments it says not to bear false witness. Similarly, Jesus in Matthew 19:16 says not to lie.

I would thus encourage President Trump to always tell the truth. Then we, and the world, will be able to trust him.
