Maybe right-wingers

bought off Lewinsky

Re: the May 7 article “Lewinsky: ‘Time to burn beret, bury dress.’”

Maybe the real reason Monica Lewinsky is emerging from the ashes is that some right-wing front group is paying her to step up and be a foil for the Clintons if Hillary runs for president .

The GOP has no burning issues, no plans for the future and has shown its contempt for working Americans. This again is another “scandal” providing material so Fox News can boost its market share within its viewership of low-information voters.

Star’s liberalism

never really changes

Re: the May 7 article “No action taken on most BP charges.”

Here we go again, another story sympathetic to illegal aliens . Just a couple of weeks ago, it was your multiday exposé trying to find Southern Arizona law enforcement agencies violating “immigrants’” rights under SB 1070.

The Star will never do a story about how illegal aliens are committing serious crimes here. I thought a recent survey reflected that the paper should change its liberal bias in reporting. Guess not. Just cosmetic changes in adding more conservative columnists to its editorial section. Nothing locally has changed.

Thanks to Friese

for column on Brewer

Re: the May 7 guest column “Vetoes show that Brewer has found the middle ground.”

Thanks to guest columnist Randall Friese, who appears to be a truly bipartisan thinker and potential statesman in Arizona. There are far too few of those.

He supports the middle-ground positions that Gov. Brewer has taken, which often counter those of the immoderate legislators from her own party. In describing what he considers to be her moderate actions, Friese also describes his personal stance on firearms, the environment and Medicaid extension.

I am pleased he is a candidate in my legislative district.

Streetcar will help

students get around

Being a student at Tucson High Magnet School and in just a few months will be attending the University of Arizona, along with Pima Community College, I feel that having the new streetcar will make getting around downtown so much easier.

I can state this is one addition the city of Tucson has created that will benefit students who need to get to class and don’t want to be stuck behind a bunch of traffic in the process.

Remember 1st part

of 2nd Amendment

Re: the May 3 letter to the editor “There’s no need for more gun laws.”

It is easy to change the meaning of any sentence by leaving out critical portions. The Second Amendment states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

A recent letter to the editor opposing comprehensive background checks stresses how “carefully” the Second Amendment authors “chose the words for their precise meaning.” Yet the writer then leaves out the entire first half of the amendment.

His quote starts with “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.” Could the entire first half of the Second Amendment have been left out because it contains the term “well regulated”?
