Pima Community College has paid a $30,000 out-of-court settlement to one of eight women who complained of being sexually harassed by Roy Flores, the school's former chancellor.

PCC's attorney John Richardson confirmed the settlement to the Arizona Daily Star this week.

Half of the $30,000 was paid by the college, the other half by its insurer, Richardson said.

The female executive who received the money still works for the college.

She was the only one of the complainants who initiated legal action within the statute of limitations for filing such claims.

The other seven women, all current and former college employees, alleged run-ins with Flores over the last several years but did not come forward to complain until this year.

Richardson wouldn't comment when asked why PCC would pay a settlement when Flores has denied wrongdoing.

The lawyer also wouldn't say whether the college plans any further action on behalf of the other seven complainants.

Those questions "involve confidential personnel matters," he said. "The college does not believe it is appropriate to engage in a dialogue about them."

PCC's governing board allowed Flores, 70, to retire for health reasons in the wake of the allegations.

In addition to the $30,000 settlement, the college has spent more than $40,000 in legal fees looking into the allegations.
