The Tucson Convention Center will host 1,800 budding scientists this week - students from kindergarten through high school whose projects qualified to compete at the 2013 Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

Prizes range from certificates to scholarships worth thousands of dollars.

After a closed judging on Tuesday, the student projects will be on display to the public on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday is Future Innovator's Night, with interactive displays and science activities for children from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The awards ceremony for kindergarten through fifth grade is Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The awards ceremony for middle- and high-school students is Friday at 7 p.m.

Winners in the high school categories qualify for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, to be held in Phoenix in May.

That fair, organized by the Society for Science & the Public, will host 1,500 students from at least 70 countries and will award $3 million in prizes.
