A black bear that had climbed into a tree in Sierra Vista was successfully captured and relocated Friday, state officials say.

The bear, a male yearling weighing less than 100 pounds, was found just north of town between Buffalo Soldier Trail and Seventh Street, a news release from the Arizona Game and Fish Department said.

A dart was used to tranquilize the bear and a tarp was used to catch it when it fell from the tree. It was released unharmed in the Gailuro Mountains.

The Sierra Vista area has had increased bear activity since the 2011 Monument Fire in the Huachuca Mountains made it harder for them to find food, officials have said.
