SAFFORD — Authorities in southern Arizona say a man and his young son have been rescued after a hike near Riggs Lake.

Cochise County Sheriff's officials say the 29-year-old man and his 9-year-old son were found about 2 p.m. Friday.

Neither had serious injuries, but authorities say the boy was airlifted to a Tucson hospital for treatment of dehydration.

The names of the boy and his father weren't immediately released.

Sheriff's officials say the two went for a hike on Wednesday in a rugged area southwest of Safford.

They were at Riggs Lake with family members camping in the area from Tucson.

When they didn't return by Wednesday night, authorities were notified.

Search and rescue crews from Pima, Maricopa and Graham counties assisted in the search.
