The 55th Rescue Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base hosted Austin Thacker, 15, as Pilot for a Day on Friday. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer. Thacker, whose school mascot is the Nighthawks, met with members of the 55th, also called the Night Hawks. He and members of his family were able to see the squadron facility as well as get to sit in a HH60 Pavehawk helicopter. The tour included a chance to get in a C-130 J simulator as well as the real thing. D-M invites children of all ages, military dependents or civilian, as guests of the 355th Fighter Wing and one of the base's operations squadrons for a full day of activities. It gives the child a chance to have a special day and a break from the challenges they are facing.
