PHOENIX — Kaibab National Forest officials say two wildfires burning in northern Arizona are now being managed together as the Ruby Complex Fire.
The Ruby Fire six miles southeast of Tusayan grew to 2,368 acres by Saturday and has reached the Arizona Trail — a popular hiking, biking and horseback riding trail.
To provide for public safety, fire managers have closed a four-mile segment of the trail from Watson tank to Grandview trailhead until further notice.
The Game Reserve Fire is half a mile away in Grand Canyon National Park and at about 384 acres.
Authorities say that blaze continues to move toward the Ruby, which is why fire officials have decided to manage the fires together.
Fire officials have taken measures to prevent rapid fire spread near cultural resource sites, wildlife water tanks, the Arizona Trail and the power line on the south side of Highway 64.
