Pima County Supervisorial District 4 contains many of the crown jewels of the Maeveen Marie Behan Conservation Lands System of the Sonoran Desert (SDCP) Conservation Plan, including Las Cienegas National Conservation Area and Cienega Creek Preserve. At the July 11 Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting, Steve Cristy, Supervisor for District 4, voted against a resolution to participate in the Clean Water Act mandated Triennial Review of surface water quality standards and to oppose industry efforts to diminish or remove water quality protections for Cienega Creek and other Outstanding Arizona Waters. Mr. Cristy’s vote is a stark reversal of Ray Carroll’s legacy as a champion of the SDCP, and is astonishingly inexplicable. Why would you not support protection of our most precious resource?
