Over 100,000 Arizona children will soon lose access to health insurance if Congress fails to extend the Children's Health Insurance Program. Arizona's KidsCare provides an affordable insurance option for low-income working families. CHIP expired two months ago and Arizona will soon need to cancel insurance for these children due to lack of federal funding.
This will have a devastating effect on children who need ongoing care for serious illnesses such as cancer, asthma and epilepsy. Interruptions in their care can be life threatening. Nationwide, nearly nine million children depend on CHIP funding for affordable health insurance. As a pediatrician, I urge our congressional delegation to take immediate action to extend current CHIP funding for all these children.
