Senator Lindsey Graham recently said in an interview, “Take all the money under Obamacare and block-grant it back to the states.” This is one of the boldest state’s rights assertions since Graham’s predecessor, Sen. James Chesnut Jr., resigned from the U.S. Senate to draft the Ordinance of Secession prior to the Civil War. The Graham-Cassidy bill — the latest Republican attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act — strips millions of Americans of their health care.

It is absolutely deplorable to place Sen. John McCain’s good friend’s name in front of this abominable bill, then tailoring it to elicit Gov. Doug Ducey’s support in order to lure McCain from his principled position. McCain defeated the last effort at repeal and insisted that all Senate procedures be employed to a bill of such importance to millions of Americans. Stay strong, Sen. McCain. Our people badly need to see a principled institutional hero in action.
