Re: the Jan. 1 letter to the editor "Recognize bias in the media."

The letter concludes: "I am sure that the Founding Fathers never meant for the First Amendment’s freedom of the press to be an extension of and advocate for a political party." The letter writer would fail the citizenship test. One just needs to read about the presidential contest between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, both Founding Fathers.

The First Amendment is predicated exactly on such freedoms, and that is what makes America a better place to live and thrive. With an infinite number of websites, video channels, and publications now instantly available to most Americans, one can consume any political diet desired. Personally, I'm an omnivore, reading both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. We'd be living in Russia if we could only read one, but that is what some want.
