In less than 15 minutes, a 64-year-old white male in Las Vegas, armed with semi-automatic weapons, killed or wounded roughly 600 people. Without semi-automatic weapons, perhaps modified by attached devices, the level of devastation could not have been achieved.

On Tuesday, while a number of the victims were still in surgery, NRA-backed Senator John Thune (R) SD, offered his suggestion on how to "stay safe" if suddenly caught in a hail of rifle bullets. Just "get small."

The "get small" tactic didn't work for the 20 first graders shot to death at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They were small, maybe three feet tall, when their killer opened fire with his semi-automatic rifle. The six women who died trying to save those kids did so with unflinching courage. If our senators and representatives had one tenth of the courage of those women, they would address the mass murder epidemic in this country.
