The second Jerusalem temple was destroyed in 70 AD. Thereafter no Jews between then and 1948 had any legal authority over this land. In 1948 instead of nations each taking displaced Jews from World War II, they were refused entry or to dock their ships.
Prior to Trump's surprise announcement of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's eternal capital, Arab countries were already shunning U. S. influence in spite of all the money and lives we've spent over there. Iraq is now aligning itself with Iran more than the U. S. Why now then do we pour more salt in the wounds with this action without any negotiation with the Palestinians? These two countries should peacefully settle their own destiny. Viet Nam, Iraq, and now this. Why if there is no panic do we always create one?
