I believe Americans are heartbroken and truly saddened by the events in Las Vegas. As a country and community we send thoughts, prayers and help to victims of such a horrible tragedy. As Tucsonans, we remember the UMC nurse killings and the horror of Jan. 8. Our pain is born of a reality.
Out there were family members, friends, educators and others who saw signs of mental illness, propensity to violence and anti-social behavior. As a society, we are busy, self-absorbed and perhaps conflicted about contacting the appropriate authorities with our concerns. None of us would want to suffer such terrible losses. I hope we all will pay more attention to the people we encounter and the world we live in.
