As we progress through the creation of the current tax bill, I continue to be amazed at the backhanded ways in which our legislators are undermining their constituents. Trickle-down economics has never been a viable way to boost or grow our economy — only a way to boost profits to those at the top of large corporations.
Just now I learned that the Senate bill now includes a repeal of the Affordable Care Act's requirement that most people have health insurance. I am stunned that this has been included, given the public outcry at the last effort to repeal healthcare without a viable replacement. While freeing up money that is allocated to this mandate would help balance out the tricky math problem of this tax bill, it is foolhardy to think that this would benefit middle-class Americans. Replacing health coverage with a tax break will not help your constituents.
I urge Sens. McCain and Flake to vote “no.”
