As a private citizen, I called and wrote to Senators Flake and McCain before the Senate voted on its tax bill, urging them to vote against this unjust and irresponsible legislation. I was disappointed when both senators voted in favor of a bill that explodes the nation’s debt to fund massive tax cuts for mega-corporations and the wealthy. Their actions have prompted me to write again, this time as a small business owner.

The Joint Committee on Taxation found the bill will add more than $1 trillion to our national debt. Increasing our debt to give tax cuts to big corporations and the rich is unconscionable.

Small businesses created nearly two-thirds of all new jobs since the Great Recession. We can continue to drive economic growth with the proper support.

I hope Senators Flake and McCain reconsider their support as Congress works to reconcile the differences between the tax plans. We need a fiscally responsible plan that levels the playing field for small businesses and working Americans.
