People are dead, and people will continue to die if we allow gun control laws to remain so lenient. How many deaths and mass shootings is it going to take before we finally do something about gun control?

Arizona, in particular, has some of the most lenient gun control laws in the country, but we didn’t start out that way. Again, and again, our representatives have removed restrictions and expanded gun rights. These are steps in the wrong direction. Even after our own tragic shooting in 2011, nothing was done.

The tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas on Sunday night is another addition to the long list of mass shootings that have occurred in our country. It is just one of the 521 mass shootings that have occurred this year alone. We cannot let these events become normalized. This is a public health crisis. We are letting people die. Let’s not sit back and hope something gets done.
