Why do the Arizona newspapers (both the Star and the Republic) continue to publish such negative stories about Basis charter schools? Basis schools in Arizona make up the Top 5 public schools in the country — shouldn't this be an enormous source of pride for the state? Shouldn't we be thrilled that the Blocks started their schools here and have become so successful that other states are begging them to come open campuses there? If any other homegrown success story had these results, I would think Arizona newspapers would highlight it as a feather in Arizona's cap, instead of repeatedly trying to drag it down. Please help us understand the constant "Basis-shaming" that is going on at our newspapers.
