Flood waters, rain and bursting levees along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers created an ocean out of farmland.
Streets near the River Des Peres in St. Louis were flooded on July 19, 1993. As crest predictions rose throughout the summer, brigades of volunteers piled on more sandbags -- but the River Des Peres kept rising to top them.
