This is an artist’s conception of a young planet in a distant orbit around its host star. The star still harbors a debris disk similar to the HD106906 system.
Lake Mead contained far more water in 1985. But 14 years of drought, particularly the last two, have reduced it considerably.
By 2010 Lake Mead looked like this. Today it is at 47 percent of capacity.
This rendering provided by NASA shows Voyager 1 at the edge of the solar system. NASA said that the long-running spacecraft has entered a new region at the fringes of the solar system.

The orbiting HiRISE camera has photographed an array of Mars surface features including these dunes seen in enhanced color.
One of the first photos shows the gravel on the surface of Mars' Gale Crater where the Curiosity landed. On the horizon is the crater's rim.
The "Loony lab" is currently directing OSIRIS-Rex, a NASA mission scheduled to launch in 2016, rendezvous with near-Earth asteroid RQ36 and return a sample of it to Earth.
See the transit of Venus on June 5 or wait 105 years for the next one.
An artist's rendering shows NASA's Juno spacecraft nearing
Jupiter. It's expected to arrive in 2016.
A HiRISE photo shows apparently active gullies in a rock wall
with debris at the bottom of the slope.

In March, astronaut Scott Kelly posed with the then-inactive
Robonaut 2, a humanoid astronaut, aboard the space station. NASA
turned on the robot Monday.
This photo released July 19 by NASA shows NASA's Mars
Exploration Rover Opportunity.
These dark lines that grow and fade seasonally on the surface of
Mars may indicate the presence of flowing water on the Red Planet,
according to University of Arizona researchers. The 3-D image
revealing the tracks was created by an undergraduate student
working at the UA’s Lunar and Planeta…
This artist's rendering depicts the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft taking a sample of rocks and dirt from Asteroid 99RQ36 in a so-called "kiss."
This image shows gullies near the edge of Hale crater on southern Mars, which scientists are excited to study because, on Earth, these features usually form through the action of liquid water.
Beads like these will head into space today.
This undated handout photo provided by NASA, taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, shows the dwarf planet Pluto. The image shows an icy, mottled, dark molasses-colored world undergoing seasonal surface color and brightness changes.
This is the most detailed view to date of the entire surface of the dwarf planet Pluto, as constructed from multiple NASA Hubble Space Telescope photographs taken from 2002 to 2003. The center disk (180 degrees) has a mysterious bright spot that is unusually rich in carbon monoxide frost.
