In this year leading up to Arizona's centennial, Feb. 14, 2012, we'll reprint a story or excerpts each day from the Arizona Daily Star or Tucson Citizen archives.

Nov. 19, 1912

Ramon Orosco, a Mexican, was arrested yesterday on Eleventh street by Officer Ybarra, taken to jail and when searched, important papers from the rebel authorities in Mexico were found upon his person.

These papers contained the names of people to go to in this country for aid and recruits for the cause. They were turned over to Mexican Consul Anaya, who will make an investigation, and the prisoner will be handed over to the federal authorities today.

Orosco has a bad reputation among the police. About seven months ago he was arrested on a charge of attempting to kill Louis Figueroa, a baker, who has a shop on Eleventh street. He was discharged and ordered to leave Tucson. He did and went to Mexico, where he joined the rebels. A few days ago he returned and has been making life miserable for the baker by hanging around his bakery at night, waiting to kill him. Night before last Figueroa became so frightened that he did not dare go home, but locked himself in the shop. Yesterday he notified Ybarra, who found his man prowling around the bakery and before he would submit to arrest the officer was forced to draw his gun.

When taken to the police station and searched, Orosco threw a most murderous looking knife in the corner.

The Ramon Orosco referred to is not the Ramon Orosco who has occupied many important clerical positions in the stores of this city.
