Arizona's Jordan Geist has been named the 2018 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, one week after he became the first freshman to double as the shot put and discus champion.

Coach Fred Harvey called the award "well deserved."

"He is a great team member, great athlete, and great student. It is exciting for us to have that type of honor for the University of Arizona.”

Geist is the first freshman to win the Pac-12 title. He also also holds the conference lead in the discus throw with a mark of 188 feet, 10 inches.

Geist will compete in the Tucson Elite Classic on Sunday.
