Columbia scored five times in the top of the seventh inning to beat Arizona 8-4 at Hi Corbett Field on Saturday night.
Eric Williams' single put the Lions up 5-4, and Columbia (1-5) added three more runs in the frame. James Farris (3-1) took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. He surrendered a career-high four walks.
Zach Gibbons had three hits for the Wildcats (12-5), while Johnny Field added two.
Columbia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but UA scored four times in the fifth to go up 4-1. Brandon Dixon had the big hit in the inning, a two-run triple to give UA a 3-1 lead.
Trent Gilbert later singled in Dixon to put the Wildcats up 4-1. Cody Ramer scored the Wildcats' first run of the inning on an error.
Columbia scored twice in the sixth off Farris to cut the lead to 4-3.
David Vandercook had three RBIs for the Lions, including a two-run single in the seventh to wrap up the scoring. Joey Donino (1-0) picked up the win for Columbia, pitching two scoreless innings. UA tagged starter Tim Giel for nine hits and four runs in five innings.
The teams wrap up the 3-game series with the rubber match today at noon. The Wildcats will then host Butler for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday.
