Johnny Field collected four hits, and Zach Gibbons drove in the decisive run Thursday, leading Arizona to a 4-3 win over Utah at Hi Corbett Field.
The victory was the first of the Pac-12 season for Arizona (16-11, 1-6). The Wildcats snapped a six-game losing streak, their longest since 2008.
It wasn't easy. Arizona trailed 2-0 through three innings and 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth before rallying. Field tripled and scored to tie the game; one inning later, Gibbons drove in Kevin Newman with a line drive up the middle.
Tyger Talley and Mathew Troupe combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief of starter Konner Wade. The three right-handers struck out 13 Utes, an Arizona season-high. Utah (12-11, 2-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double-steal. The Utes did not trail until Arizona rallied in the seventh. The teams will play again today at 6 p.m.
